But when I needed help later on the shop had suddenly got busy with six people waiting to be served and only two assistants, one in the back room presumably processing pictures. What were the staff like? Very helpful at first, explaining how to use the processing and printing machines. Most of the accessories were towards the back. Frank's son Alan sold the firm in 1996 in a management buyout, and the company is now a subsidiary of Snap Equity Limited. There are now more than 200 branches and an online shop. When I returned to collect my photos the salesperson was helpful when I couldn't find my proof of purchase slip which I had managed to lose, though the opening photo of me with a cheesy grin did provide perfect ID.īackground Frank Jessop opened his first store in Leicester in 1935. The service was fast and efficient with no attempt made to sell me products I didn't want. Lasting impressions The shop had plenty to offer the individual who likes to use their photos in imaginative ways, including clocks, jigsaws and mugs. Where can I pay? There was a counter at the front of the store and I didn't have to wait to pay as there was only other customer. A CD with your pictures on it was £4.99 and passport photos were £7.99. What does it charge? 30 6"x4" photos, £9.60 30 7"x5" photos, £13.80 – both processed in about an hour. The machines were relatively simple to use: inserting your memory card viewing and editing your pictures (including red eye and cropping) via the touch screen choosing the ones you want processed and selecting the size and finish (matt or gloss) before taking a receipt to the till. Despite an offer of help I just asked for a quick explanation, allowing me to go about my mission in the store. What were the staff like? As I walked up to the kiosks a salesman talked me through the process. This is a small store with processing equipment behind the counter, and in the centre of the shop are three kiosks for self-service digital printing. What it sells Photo print outs on paper or on gift items.įirst impressions From the outside the shop sign was prominent, with the familiar green and yellow branding, though the interior looks like it could do with a spruce up. Originally, branches specialised in straightforward photo processing but now the focus is more on gift items. Snappy Snapsīackground Snappy Snaps was founded in 1983 by Don Kennedy and Tim MacAndrews and has about 120 franchised outlets in the UK. This week, we compare photography shops Snappy Snaps and Jessops. Your reviews will help us discover if this is a trend. Some weeks, both stores we visit may do a good job other weeks there will be one that stands out as being much better or worse. To get a better idea of which retailers are delivering and which are falling short, we would like you to tell us about your experiences of the same shops.

The very first access stairwell that you come upon descends into the "toddler" area, no deeper than 2 1/2 to 3 feet but mostly 6-12 inches in depth, at the bottom of the stairwell, there is a 1 1/2 foot drop, onto very very slippery moss covered rock. The shut ins however are NOT manmade! The water is clear, in the rushing current areas its impossible to see the giant boulder that takes the depth from 15 feet deep to 3 feet and then to 15 feet again. Not flip flop shoes, or cheap water shoes, tennis shoes- This is rock climbing, with a rushing current, extremely unpredictable depths, and NOT an activity for small children in the faster currents. However, they do allow non-disposable jugs etc, so plan ahead! The 1/4 mile walk to from the shut-ins parking lot is almost fully shaded, and very nice, but by the time you realize you need something to drink, its an adventure just to climb out to get to a stairwell access to then walk that 1/4 mile to the lot. They strongly discourage taking any disposable or glass drinks, and down in the shut ins there is no drinking fountain readily available. It was 100 degrees on the Sunday that we visited. 13 year old boys both loved it and didn't want to leave- they were definitely better equipped for the faster current in the main shut in area. Hadnt been to the shut-ins for about 30 years and decided to take our two kids 9 & 13 with 2 of their friends. It is quite amazing and feels like you are in the mountains here. Water creates chutes and rapids and branches out among the rock field. It was fun to jump around the smoothed down the surface of the dark rock. A shallower area can be found at the front of the rapids and a deeper area can be found farther down for older kids. Judging from some mothers with kids on a pebble beach, it will be fine to take him since he could spend most of his time in the swimming holes that surround the rapids. My main objective today was scouting the area for a future trip with the kid. I wore my flip-flops, but water shoes would also work. So on my day here has the medium rapids and I can expect some tugging from the water.Įxplore this area with some kind of footwear unless you want to scrape or cut your foot on the rocky terrain. However, if you decide to continue on the Shut-Ins Trail the journey is about 2.25 miles round-trip and offers many scenic spots to stop along the way. Our favorite trail is the Shut-Ins Trail which starts at a level boardwalk and takes you to a view of the shut-ins from above (0.3 miles) so if you aren’t up for a lengthy hike you can go this far and stop. This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss Whether your photos come in through a camera, SD card, iCloud Photo Stream, other Internet service, or a phone, PhotoSweeper will make sure you’re not wasting drive space on duplicates./r/photography is a place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography. With a few adjustments and trial-and-error, it starts to make sense and really demonstrates its power.įor a very reasonable price of $10, PhotoSweeper may not be a tool that you use daily, but it does a nice job of tidying up a photo library or even a project folder in the age of photos coming to your Mac in a number of different ways. If we had to find something to fault PhotoSweeper about, it’s that there is a bit of a learning curve to get it to find just the right results. The browser itself has also gotten the feature to search for photos directly based on criteria. With the newest version, PhotoSweeper includes support for Adobe DNG files, as well as the ability to lock photos for only comparison purposes. It gives you enough options to keep a power user happy, but also walks through each step to make sure that you’re only deleting what you really want. What is nice is that PhotoSweeper can be quite powerful, but also very approachable and user-friendly. At this point, duplicates can be unmarked or the marked items can be sent to the Trash. The file names are displayed so you can be certain the photos original purpose. You can view them as Face-to-Face (duplicates are showed as a large view next to each other) or a Group List. Most duplicates were pretty obvious, while some were similar photos that were taken almost immediately after another. Checking through the results yielded satisfactory options. This simply highlights which ones will be kept and which ones will be selected to be deleted. Once processed (which is surprisingly fast for thousands of photos), the program offers to mark duplicate photos automatically. Once you set the parameters, a “Compare” button starts the process. This would be useful when you took three photos of the same thing in succession. You can also fine-tune the match amounts, so include photos that are similar versus identical matches. If you mix two, the results will be a little more accurate. Once all the photos were selected, you can figure out the way to match with some criteria: Bitmap (the pictures have similar pixels), Histogram (similar lighting and colors), Time Interval (if you snapped photos at the same time), or a combination of these. As I use an iPhoto Library to store my photos (although actually used with Aperture), this was a piece of cake. Upon launch, the user is presented with a window where photos can be dragged and dropped from either a location on your computer or using the built-in browsing tool to load items from a library. While some tools are included in these programs for sorting and finding duplicates, PhotoSweeper by Overmacs is a $10 utility that hopes to make the process even easier. Although programs like iPhoto, Aperture, and Lightroom try to help with keeping photos organized, multiple cameras types, accidental extra imports, and even simple file duplications are bound to happen. If you’re like me, your digital photo library may span years-even decades. So overall I fully expect a very nice "second life" of Hurtworld, so long as promotion and advertising is adequate.(And a temporary price drop to about $15 to $18 would help a lot, until the pop rises by at least a few thousand and average review scores rise enough to warrant a $25 price tag. Also the potential for even more diversity among community servers is relatively massive. Meanwhile the small group of people who want end game in 3 hours and some super casual phone app type of gameplay will be the only ones left complaining. most will stay, especially the ones who have friends to play with (afterall this kind of game always promotes teamwork). I think in the game's current state and direction, when efforts ARE made to increase the population. Also a surprising (and almost depressing) number of players still haven't figured out how to even access V2. Combined with the lack of advertising and incentives to get new players to come try it out. Well 5% of players disliking it is pretty good, if you ask me.īut the pop issues are by-and-large because of so many players who quit in 2016 and forgot about Hurtworld, and haven't come back to check out V2. One out of every twenty players I speak to who spend a reasonable amount of time in V2 say it's NOT better than V1. If the majority of players who quit because the updates took too long (and most of these left in 2016 and haven't come back to see, so the argument that V2 chased players away is invalid) were to come back and check out V2. They don't like being part of the EA development process that V2 players have been so dedicated to helping out withīasically it all adds up to. They don't like the satisfying challenge of having to actually progress, instead of being able to skip to end-game quickly They liked the shotgun being super OP, instead of weapons being balanced There is less glitchy goofy mechanics that some players find "fun" V2 crashes for some users, partially due to a long-standing bug that microsoft introduced in October which effects the Unity Engine, and MS refuses to fix themselves (however, in most cases there is solutions for players to fix this themselves) so admins wishing to start a V2 server need to go through back-door methods to obtain most of the Hurtworld-specific plugins There has not been official Oxide support, in regards to plug-ins, for V2 (this will probably be changing very soon). Players with super potato computers with only 4GB of ram have trouble connecting to V2 servers due to a somewhat (but only somewhat) more resource-intensive loading process They like using the exploits in V1 that no longer exist in V2 They haven't played V2 for more than an hour or two at a time, and rage quit as soon as they see one thing that they don't like They don't like learning new things, and V1 is as simple as can be They don't want to need more skill to PVP (they like the lack of recoil and bullet physics in V1) They don't want to lose their unraidable cave spots that they rush to and take over every single wipe in V1 I think the main reasons for the "v2 suck" people, other than them just being jerks and probably would hate on the game no matter what happened, is The developers of this game are very active in the community and read almost every thread posted on the forum, and are not hesitant to make changes that the majority of the community wants, but wasting all the time and money spent on developing v2 and rolling back to v1 is not something most of the community wants and is not something they would do without a good reason. If one of these "v2 suck" people ever actually brought up a good argument then I'm sure even the devs would consider fixing what makes "v2 suck". Currently there are much less bugs than v1, the graphics are better, there is as least twice as much gear and guns, there is tons of ways to customize weapons and clothes such as skins, custom names and coloring via spray paint and item naming scrolls, there are PvP events at raid towns, there is custom stat progression on items via fragments such as making your car faster by adding a power fragment to the engine, and just so much more that I don't even have the time to list. Just play v2 for week or two and you would see how much better it is, right now would be the best time to get started as all the servers wiped yesterday. Once your cursor is above the metro station icon, you'll be given an option to fast travel. All you need to do is open up your map and hover over a metro station. Now that you have a few metro stations and fast travel unlocked, the next part is simple. "'Activating Metro Stations will turn it into a safe zone and can now be used for fast travel.'" "'Note that ALL loot in the area will disappear after you activate the station.'" Once you've activated all backup generators,'" take the elevator back up to the Metro Station and power it up.'" Sometimes, there will be "'no electricity inside the station,'" and you'll have to "'find backup generators in the generator room'" and activate them to get the Metro Station running. Once you enter, all you'll need to do is get past the bandits or zombies and flip a switch to get the station up and running. Metro Stations are occupied by zombies or bandits, and you'll never know who's inside until you enter. The second you enter one for the first time, you'll be greeted with this prompt. And activating a metro station isn't too complicated either. So if you want to use fast travel more effectively, it's in your best interest to activate a few stations. There are only a few key spots in-game that you can fast travel to without using a metro station. Metro Stations can be found all around the map with a train icon and serve as fast travel beacons. Once you've made it, you'll be able to fast travel freely from Old Villedor to the Central Loop. While in Old Villedor it won't be available, but the second you make it to the Central Loop, you'll unlock fast travel. To unlock the fast travel feature, you're going to need to complete a few Main Quests first. That means Gratton will miss home games against the Panthers (Saturday) and the Islanders (Tuesday) and a road game at Carolina (Wednesday). By that time, Demers already knew Gratton would be lost for three games. The news wasn't made available to the media until more the two hours after the game. John D'Amico, the NHL supervisor at the game, informed Demers of Stewart's spitting claim about 30 minutes after the game. According to Lightning players and coaches, Stewart threatened Gratton with ejection in the first period. The argument between Gratton and Stewart was their second exchange of the game. Gratton was given a two-minute penalty for roughing, a two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, a 10-minute misconduct penalty and a game misconduct. Gratton then stepped into the bench area and down the hallway into the locker room. Stewart then appeared to yell at Gratton as he followed Gratton across the ice to the Lightning bench. The incident took place near the Lightning net. That's what Chris said and I believe him." "He was wearing a mouth guard and sometimes that makes it difficult to talk, but he absolutely did not spit on him. The only thing that could have possibly happened, he said, was that as he was yelling that it's possible saliva (sprayed) out as he was talking," Demers said. According to Demers, Gratton was "pushed by Stewart, and then there was a verbal exchange. Gratton attempted to intervene but was held back by Stewart. The incident supposedly occurred with 6.2 seconds remaining when a fight broke out between Tampa Bay's Darcy Tucker and Buffalo's Vaclav Varada. According to the NHL rule book, no appeal of this particular rule can be made unless the suspension is longer than three games. Gratton, 23, could have been suspended for more than three games, but the league decided to give him the minimum punishment. Stewart ruled that Gratton's alleged spitting fell under the rule of "physically (demeaning) an Official." Any player who uses physical force against an official, without intent to injure, is suspended for at least 10 games. Should a player attempt to injure an official, he is suspended for at least 20 games. Category III of the rule states, in part, "Any player who, by his actions, physically demeans an Official shall be suspended for not less than three (3) games." Nevertheless, Stewart's word is all that's needed to suspend Gratton under Rule 76 of the NHL rule book. Nobody saw it _ the linesman, other players, nobody. Chris denies it, but the referee said it happened. "There's nothing we can do about it," Lightning general manager and coach Jacques Demers said. |
